Sacred Stitches: The Art of Caregiving
Stitching Yourself Back Together When Caring for Someone with Dementia.

Reconnecting you to YOU.

A Creative Journey for Caregivers

Have you ever had one of those days when the fabric of your life, everything around you, seems to be in pieces?

Your heart breaking, stressed, torn apart, caring for a loved one who doesn't even remember you as daughter or son, much less remember your name?  Sometimes, you forget who you are!  Your creativity is stifled!

I know that when you assume the duties of caregiving, as you may have experienced, you realize it is a full-time job. It’s a whirl-pool requiring special effort to juggle business, family, the many doctor appointments, scheduling home-care personnel, plus managing the day-to-day activities.

It’s a special effort for you to stay afloat!

I understand. I know. I’m there with you.

I’m experiencing the upsets of being a caregiver.  I’m familiar with the many challenges of a caregivers life.

I’m an artist, and a caregiver.  I work from home creating Shimoda Accessories – Art for the Soul.  I use the ancient art and craft traditions of hand stringing and knotting beads and semi-precious stones into fine jewelry and textile art; connecting cloth together by hand-stitching pieces of fabric into a whole cloth.

I live with my husband and we take care of my 94 year-old mother.  Mom has Alzheimer's disease.

In addition, I also care for another family member who lives elsewhere.  Thankfully, she is a breast-cancer survivor.  However, she is now experiencing memory lapses.

One day, lost in the midst of a labyrinth of busy-ness. I thought, "Hello, what about YOU." I knew it was time for me to do something different for myself.

I’ve know many people who are going through the same issues of frustration, loss of power and stress to name a few. Talking to them inspired me to share what I do to make your life easier.

I decided to create ‘Sacred Stitches: The Art of Caregiving.’ My intention is to encourage you to expect positive results from your caregiving efforts. I’ll offer solutions that work for me, and for the caregivers who have been paralyzed by the "what ifs," second guessing every decision.  You will receive tips, creative exercises, rituals, stories of how I work, and funny things that Mom does.  In addition, you will receive solutions for daily care-taking issues. I’ll also interview other care givers’ who will share their stories and tips.

By the way, you will not find clinical, stuffy, sad or serious stuff in the Sacred Stitches: The Art of Caregiving. There are plenty of serious sites and articles on caregiving available. Instead, you will learn the fun side of caregiving, and reframe your caregiving experience for you and your love ones.

LET GO, RELAX, BREATHE. These are the three gems of the Sacred Stitches: The Art of Care Giving. When you use them to help keep you sane during the crazy, care-taking times, you will begin to artfully stitch together the many scattered pieces of your caregiving life into a beautiful multifaceted collage art quilt.

Change happens when you implement, and consistently use the three gems that will reconnect you to your center.

You become YOU. And, inspired by your decision to do care-taking differently, you are refreshed, motivated, and YOU become the center, stitch by stitch, of your life.

Now is your time to reconnect you to YOU.
